Home Occupations

Certain home-based businesses, also known as home occupations, are allowed in all residential zones in Moses Lake "to permit residents of the community a reasonable use of their residence as a place of livelihood and/or for supplementing of personal/family income" (Moses Lake Municipal Code 18.55). The licensing process for a home occupation may include notifying the adjacent neighbors of the proposed business.

  • Attorney
  • Beautician/Barber
  • Bed and Breakfast Facility
  • Custom Florist
  • Dressmaker
  • Licensed Massage Therapist
  • Photographer
  • Professional Service Provider

Prohibited Occupations

  • Appliance repair
  • Cabinet shop
  • Electronic Equipment Repair
  • Fumigation Services
  • Retail sales
  • Small Engine Repair
  • Taxi Business with more than one vehicle
  • Upholstery Shop
  • Vehicle Repair

Requirements

  • Must be carried on within the residence by the occupants.
  • Must be clearly incidental to the use of the residence as a dwelling.
  • Must not change the residential character of the dwelling.
  • Must not give the outward appearance of a business.
  • Must not infringe on the right of the neighboring residents to enjoy a peaceful occupancy of their homes.
