Home-Based Businesses
Home Occupations
Certain home-based businesses, also known as home occupations, are allowed in all residential zones in Moses Lake "to permit residents of the community a reasonable use of their residence as a place of livelihood and/or for supplementing of personal/family income" (Moses Lake Municipal Code 18.55).  The licensing process for a home occupation includes notifying the adjacent neighbors of the proposed business.

  • Accountant
  • Attorney
  • Beautician
  • Dressmaker
  • Licensed Massage Therapist
  • Photographer
  • Professional service provider
  • Appliance repair
  • Cabinet shop
  • Electronic equipment repair
  • Retail sales
  • Taxi business with more than one vehicle
  • Upholstery shop
  • Vehicle repair

Requirements
  • Must be carried on within the residents by the occupants
  • Must be clearly incidental to the use of the residence as a dwelling
  • Must not change the residential character of the dwelling
  • Must not give the outward appearance of a business
  • Must not infringe on the right of the neighboring residents to enjoy a peaceful occupancy of their homes
