Sasquatch Revealed Flash Fiction Writing & Illustration Contest

Whether you are a believer or not, Sasquatch or Bigfoot, has long haunted our imaginations. As part of the Museum’s summer exhibition, Sasquatch Revealed, we invite you to submit a piece of Sasquatch-themed flash-fiction and a related illustration to our creative writing competition.

  • Flash fiction is a self-contained story consisting of a beginning, middle and end in 1,000 words or less (or follow the suggested word counts for each age group). 

  • Illustrations must reference your short story. 

Respond to any of the creative writing prompts, or create your own. Enter to be eligible to win several cash prizes and select titles from Sasquatch Books, or their children’s press, Little Bigfoot.

Entries will be featured in the Civic Center Avenue from July 23-28. Winners will be announced at the Saturday afternoon speakers program on July 28 at 3:00 p.m. “Hidden" Animals: An Introduction to the Science of Cryptozoology with author David George Gordon (The Sasquatch Seeker’s Field Manual and 19 other titles).

  • Please include your NAME, AGE CATEGORY and PHONE NUMBER on entries.

Suggested Ages & Word Counts
4-5 years old      (100-200 words – children may dictate their story to an adult)
           6-8 years old      (200-300 words)
           9-12 years old    (300-500 words)
           Teens                  (700-1000 words)

One of Washington's most unusual art shows returns in 2018. The Moses Lake Museum & Art Center's quirky annual art show, Baked, Mashed or Fried returns for a reboot, Reheated: Baked, Mashed or Fried. Create an original "dish" or recreate famous artworks in a spud-theme. Get ready to dig into potato puns and compete to win the coveted "Golden Potato Award," a $500 purchase award sponsored by the Washington State Potato Commission.

The MAC schedules Main Gallery shows one year in advance. Shows run for approximately 6-8 weeks.

Applications for the Main Gallery and the Museum Store Gallery are reviewed on a rolling basis. The Main Gallery is booked 1-1.5 years in advance. The Museum Store Gallery is booked 3-6 months in advance.

The MAC Museum Store carries an assortment of artisan and unique gift items. The store is expanded during the annual Holiday Show to incorporate new and returning artisans for the holiday gift season.
