Mayor Dean Hankins was appointed to the City Council in 2018 and elected to fill a full 4-year term in 2019.
His background includes 25 years in the US Air Force with two one-year tours in Vietnam. Approximately 13 years was as a medic and 12 as a Physician Assistant. While a medic he spent time in different management roles including assistant manager of an Emergency Room, manager of a Hospital ambulance service, and manager of a Medical Surgical inpatient ward. He received his Bachelor of Science degree as a Physician Assistant from the University of Nebraska Medical School. His time in the USAF included practice in multiple clinics such as Family Practice, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Mental Health, and the Emergency Room. Since coming to Moses Lake he has worked in Pediatrics, Family Practice, and Urgent Care.
Dean has now called Moses Lake home for over 30 years and doubts if he could have found a better place to live and raise his family. He came to Moses Lake in 1989 to work in the Pediatric Department of the Moses Lake Clinic. After 7 years in that position he practiced in the Pioneer Medical Center Family Practice Clinic. Both of his children attended Chief Moses Middle School and Moses Lake High School. His daughter received her degree in English Literature from the University of Washington in Seattle and his son graduated from Carroll College in Helena, Montana and is now a 5th grade teacher there.
