Learn two techniques for making rag rugs from old t-shirts and woven fabric. Participants should bring 5 old t-shirts to cut up, old sheets to cut up or other woven fabric (long lengths work best) and a sharp pair of scissors or rotary cutter. All other materials provided. Students will make one complete rug to take home and start on a second rug to finish later.

Hula Hoop Rugs: Quick and easy round weaving craft technique used to make small rugs or chair pads from discarded tee shirts.

Toothbrush Rugs: Learn how to make rugs using a time-honored tradition. This two-strand weaving technique creates a very strong, durable textile.

In addition to learning how to make a toothbrush rug, instructor will demonstrate how to make “tee shirt yarn” which can be used to crochet rugs and other items. These techniques help us upcycle textiles that might otherwise end up in a landfill. Come learn great way to make custom accessories for your home!
