Free Family Saturday

The first Saturday of every month, between 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm, the Moses Lake Museum & Art Center sponsors a free family activity or special program.

Free Family Saturday is fun for the whole family and is open to all ages. Activities fill on a first come first served basis and run until supplies have been exhausted.


Registration will be required for Free Family Saturday. Save time the day of, and register online in a few clicks for the whole year.

Day-of registration will be available, legal guardian must be present to sign waivers.

So you know it’s fun, and it’s always free - but where exactly does funding for Free Family Saturday come from? From puff-balls to presentations and everything in between Free Family Saturday is funded entirely by donations to the museum through our membership program, sponsorships and the annual Rusty Mammoth Art & Collectible sale.

march FREE FAMILY SATURDAY: Origamipaper folded into different, simple shapes

Date: March 6, 2021
Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Museum Classroom, 401 S. Balsam St.

Origami is the art of paper folding. Did you know that the word origami is composed of the Japanese words oru (to fold) and kami (paper)? We will provide you with a few sheets of colored origami paper, as well as instructions for simple shapes, and resources online for more.

Please call the Museum at 509-764-3830 when you get here, and we will bring your craft outside to you curbside. You can also knock on the marked doors. 

April FREE FAMILY SATURDAY: Planet Earthclay sculpture of the earth, golf-ball sized

Let's celebrate our beautiful planet, after all, Earth Day is coming up! You will be doing basic sculpting with air-dry clay. Are you going to try and make an accurate depiction of our planet? Re-create Pangea? Make your own continents? The world is your oyster, and we cannot wait to see what you come up with.

May Day is an ancient festival of spring held on May 1st of each year. The earliest known May celebrations were during Roman times, in celebration of Flora, the Roman Goddess of Flowers. Nowadays it is widely celebrated throughout Europe as a celebration of Spring. Since the late 20th century, it has become traditional to leave baskets of flowers on your neighbor’s doorsteps, adding a little brightness to their today. We will be making May Day Baskets out of paper.

june FREE FAMILY SATURDAY: Tic-Tac-Toe Travel Gamecloth bag with painted stones to make a tic tac toe game

Date: June 5, 2021
Time: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Location: Museum Classroom, 401 S. Balsam St.

This month we will make a travel tic-tac-toe game. You will paint a tic tac toe board on a small cloth drawstring bag, and paint stones with x’s and o’s.
